FAQs

What is Digital Scrapbooking?

Many people are aware of traditional scrapbooking. Traditional scrapbookers use paper, and three dimensional embellishments, combined with their photos and journaling to create a scrapbook page. Unlike traditional scrapbooking, digital scrapbooking is done completely on the computer. Using photo editing software, digital photos (or traditional photos, scanned as high resolution digital photos), are combined with digital backgrounds and elements to create a artistic page. This page can then be printed in a variety of different ways.

Why Digital?

There are many benefits to digital scrapbooking.
  • With traditional scrapbooking, you generally only get one copy of each page. With digital scapbooking, you can have any number of copies printed of each page.  You can even have the same page printed in different sizes. There is also always a digital copy available that I will keep as a backup. If anything happens to your album or artwork, you can order another copy from me.
  • Digital scrapbooking does not involve three dimensional items (although many digital elements look very much to be three dimensional). Because the finished product is flat, you have many more options for display. Pages can be printed and bound into a coffee table style book, or even framed under glass. This would not be possible if 3-d elements were included on the page.
  • Because I am using digital scrapbooking, I will only be working with copies of your photos. All of your originals will remain intact and available to you to do whatever you would like with them.
  • Digital scrapbooking gives me many different artistic options. I can create pages in a variety of different styles.  Using digital, I have more of an opportunity to edit your photos if necessary and resize them to fit on the page in the most artistic way possible. I can recolor papers and elements to work perfectly with your photos and even create custom papers and elements to go with your pictures if necessary.
  • We can make changes to any pages if necessary, before they are printed. If we identify a problem or something is incorrect, it is easily changed.

Can digital pages only be seen on a computer screen?

Absolutely not. Digital really only refers to the process I use to create your pages. Each page is then printed in whatever format you order and delivered to you as a physical product.

What can be included on my pages?

I can put any photos on your pages. Digital photos are easily put onto the page, or I can scan traditional photos to include on your pages for a small fee. Memorabilia of many kinds, including things like ticket stubs, letters or postcards, or even small 3-d items such as jewelry, can also be scanned and included on the page. The only thing I ask is that you not send in slides, negatives, originals, or anything that is irreplaceable. Make copies of any items and send me the copy. Although I will treat your photos with respect and care, I will not be responsible for any damage in shipping or while in my possession. So, make sure you keep the originals with you.

What if I have less than perfect photos?

The thing that will make your product meaningful to you is your memories and using photos that are important to you. Some of my favorite pages I have made were created with less than perfect photos. Photos that are kind of blurry, have imperfect colors, or are not perfectly composed can still make wonderful art pieces. You will be amazed at how great an average photo can look through image manipulation software and after being combined with other elements.

What about professional photos?

I can only include photos on your pages for which you own the copyright. Photos taken by professional photographers cannot be included unless you have permission from the copyright holder. You must obtain permission in writing and include a copy of that permission with your photos.

What is the process of having a product created?

  1. Contact me to start the process. Let me know what product you are interested in.
  2. We will have a consultation, either in person if you live locally, or by phone or email in which we will discuss your project in depth, including your preferences, time frame and cost. Before our consultation, you might want to look at the Gallery, and think about what in the gallery appeals the most to you. Decide what you like and don't like so that I can get an idea of your tastes and opinions. At this point, at least 50% of the cost of the product must be paid so that I can begin working on your project.
  3. You will send me your photos, either by email, a third party upload site, or by regular postal mail. At this point, if needed for your project, you can also send me information about your photos, including dates, names, and any writing you would like included on your page.
  4. I will scan in any photos that need scanning and organize your photos so that the photos for each page are together.
  5. I will then create your project. This is the step that takes the most time. Each project is completely custom made.  I will allow your photos to take center stage and design your project around your photos, making your photos and memories shine.
  6. I will send you a link to a web gallery containing your images. You will get a chance to see your images and approve them before printing. Any minor changes, including fixing mistakes, can be fixed at this point free of charge. Larger changes and redesigns can also be done for an additional charge.
  7. I send all of my printing to off-site printing services, to ensure the best quality. The printed items are then sent to me. I check the items to make sure they are done with the greatest quality, prepare the items any way that is needed, and ship them out to you.

Can I get a refund if I am not satisfied?

Because each product is custom made I cannot offer refunds. I will however work directly with you throughout the process to make sure that you are satisifed with my work. If there are any errors on the product due to my mistakes, I will replace the product as needed.

What if I still have questions?

If you have any more questions, make sure to contact me, and I will answer you as soon as possible.
